The E/506th may be better known to you guys as ‘Easy Company’ from Band of Brothers.

While the 502nd PIR was assigned DZ ‘A’, just East of St Martin de Varreville., and the 506th took DZ ‘B’ north of Hierville. Their mission was to clear the DZ’s for the rest of their division, the Paratroop Infantry regiments (PIR), The Airborne Engineer Battalions, and Paratroop Artillery Regiments.Īs you can see from the tactical map below, Angoville-au-plain (located around the green markings north of Carentan) was one of the designated DZ’s for the 101st Airborne division.

Lillyman’s troops attaining their Drop Zone (DZ) behind Utah beach at 00.15 h. The pathfinders of the 101st Airborne were among the first to set foot on French soil on DDay, with Capt. The quiet village of Angoville-au-plain would be one of the first French villages to see Airborne troops dropping from the skies. On June 6th 1944 all hell broke loose on the Normandy beaches from Ste Mère Eglise in the East all the way to the Orne River in the West. Picture: The actual dropzone above Angoville Mère Eglise, and finally the village I have selected to be our Coh Angoville: Angoville-au-plain, which is located right on the approaches of Utah Beach. Around the Normandy landing zone, there are three villages which are candidate to being our precious Coh Ango: Angoville, south of Caen, Angoville-sur-uy, East of Ste.
